The Ancient Art Of The Didgeridoo
The ancient art of playing the didgeridoo evolved around two thousand years ago. When the Europeans arrived, the only areas in the expanse of Australia where the instrument was used, were the Northern regions of the Northern Territory and in the north-eastern parts of the Kimberleys. Located in the heart of these areas, Katherine Art Gallery holds extremely good quality, authentic, musical instruments decorated with traditional and contempory art work.
The Gallery holds a vast range of didgeridoos to suit all budgets and tastes. Please let us know your ideas or requirements as we can provide instruments for the beginner, or the experienced accomplished player, as well as the collector of gallery pieces. We can also provide instruments in a particular key and with your favoured decorations. Designs often include mythical beings, human figures, snakes, lizards, tortoises, turtles and birds. Sometimes symbolised are camps, water holes, tracks and creeks. Most of the didgeridoos in The Gallery are made of a Eucalypt species called, Woolybutt, Bloodwood and Stringybark.

If you are a newcomer to playing the didgeridoo, it can take a little time and patience to master the instrument. The Gallery holds books, CDs and cassettes to get you started.
The following is a representation of the didgeridoos Katherine Art Gallery holds. There are many other didgeridoos painted by our special artists, these are just a small sample. We are able to email you further images of didgeridoos with details of the specific dimensions, tonal qualities, artwork and prices. We also wholesale didgeridoos throughout Austrailia and the world at wholesale prices. At Katherine Art Gallery we appreciate that deciding which didgeridoo you want is a personal choice. This is why we cannot display every single didgeridoo on the website; besides, we hold hundreds of instruments in the gallery. Instead let us know your requirements. Explain to us what kind of didgeridoo you would like to have in terms of artwork themes, sizes, prices and tones. You can have your didgeridoo tailor made to your requirements. However, it would be impossible to guarantee exact specifications, as each artist must follow their creative and spiritual instincts.
