Michael Nelson Jagamarra

Michael was born at Vaughan Springs in the Northern Territory.  His mother and father were both Warlpiri people and his father was an important medicine man in Yuendumu when they lived there.  Michael grew up in the bush without clothes and remembers the fear he experienced when he first sighted a white man.  He attended the mission school at Yuendumu and was initiated as an adult at the age of thirteen.  Michael did many jobs such as buffalo hunting, truck driver, cattle handler and joined the army before settling down with his current wife Marjorie, at Papunya.  whilst there Michael observed the older painters and after experimenting decided to begin painting regularly in 1983.  Michaels works are highly sought after and have been featured in many publications.
