Gloria Petyarre

Gloria Petyarre was born at Atnangkere Soakage, Northern Territory.  In the 1970s Gloria was a founding member of the Utopia Women's Batik group.  She painted her first canvas in 1980.  Gloria paints the traditional women business subjects, which are predominant in Utopia.  In her work Gloria uses close tonal values of different colours, creating a dynamic optical intensity.  Her work features powerful structural liner patterns derived from body painting, outlined with sinlge dots.
